Donley Projects

The Donley’s are some of our very first clients and we’re proud to say that they have been such a joy to get to know and work with over the last year. The attached pictures are of several projects that we have completed with them and are excited that we are currently working on another project for them and will post another blog upon completion.

Stair Railings With Plasma Cut Animals

This is where it all started. We met the Donleys while being a vendor at a wine and craft festival in Front Royal, VA. It was from that day that we collaborated with them of designing a hand rail for their staircase in order to better suit their needs. They expressed their love of bears and how they wanted the hand rails to suit the log cabin style of their home. As the pictures show below the final design and build of the railings included bears, wolves, elk, deer, and arrowheads, as these served for not only a country design but also for function as they are brackets which anchor the railing to the wall.

Ladder Transformation (Before, During, and After)

The second project we created for them was a repurposing of their pine loft ladder. They expressed that they frequently needed to move it in order to access the door next it and would prefer to have it retractable for easy storage. This was a wonderful challenge to take on as we could not find a design online that met the requirements of being retractable and with no spring wheels on the bottom of the ladder as is seen at times with library ladders. So away we went to the drawing board and came up with the design as seen below.

We changed out the pine treads for diamond plated treads and screwed these into the frame of the ladder. It was then adorned with twisted handles anchored with root style brackets, hidden wheels, and a plasma cut scene of a mama and baby bear walking across a fallen sequoia tree. As you can see in the video below it now pulls out and closes up snuggly to wall in an easy manner.

Copper Caps

The Donley’s home were already adorned with copper caps but had been weathered over the years of exposure and they asked us to create new one to replace their old ones with. Each cap was built specifically for each post in order to ensure a perfectly snug fit. The Donley’s wished for the caps to not be sealed which will lend a beautiful patina over time.

Custom Bench

This beautiful front entry bench features century old redwood that was milled before the logging of redwoods was banned. It was by pure chance that Platinum Star Forge acquired this redwood and we hope that it’ll serve the clients well for years to come. It has been adorned with hand twisted handles and legs with root-styled brackets.

Stain Glass Bathroom Window

This beautiful stain glass graces the clients bathroom and opens beautifully to reveal the wonderful outdoors. The stain glass was designed and built by Stainglass by Kib LLC. located in Virginia. This particular piece of his also features hand painted rocks and animals as well as the traditional stained glass. Platinum Star Forge paired up with this wonderful company and provided the frame, structural support, root-styled brackets, and twisted handles. This piece is truly one of our favorites, and as it was such a pleasure to work with Stainglass by Kib LLC. we highly recommend them to anyone interested in purchasing stain glass artwork.
