R.E.A.C.H Blacksmithing Course Descriptions


  With the joy of blacksmithing being recently rediscovered, many are looking for a quality blacksmith to learn from. Here at Platinum Star Forge we meet that need by offering hands-on classes for both children and  adults where students will successfully build projects and gain foundational skills to pursue the art of blacksmithing. 


Show and Tell:  

  • Ages: 5+

  • Duration: 1 hour       30-45 minutes demonstration with 15-30 minutes hands on

  • Enrollment: 5-10 spots, parent/adult mandatory for ages 5-12

  • Cost: $12


    The first half of the Show and Tell class will consist of Platinum Star Forge’s blacksmith introducing them to the history of blacksmithing and how it has evolved throughout the centuries.  There will also be a short demonstration on lighting the forge as well as forging out some material, which will range anywhere from making scrolls, or leaves to twisting bars. Students will have the opportunity to hammer cold soft metal during the hands on portion of the class. Finally the class will conclude with the students doing a small blacksmith craft to take home.





Intro to Blacksmithing- Kids:

  • Ages: 10-13

  • Duration: 3 hours

  • Enrollment: 2-4 spots

  • Cost: $65


    The class will consist of Platinum Star Forge’s blacksmith introducing them to the history of blacksmithing and how it has evolved throughout the centuries. Students will also learn about the varying temperatures of fire and their influence on the metal. In this class students will work with a forge, learn how to properly hold a hammer and tongs, draw metal out, shape, and quench. 





Intro. to Blacksmithing- Teens: 

  • Ages: 14-18

  • Duration: 3 hours

  • Enrollment: 2-4 spots per class

  • Cost: $65


    The class will consist of Platinum Star Forge’s blacksmith introducing them to the history of blacksmithing and how it has evolved throughout the centuries. 1 Day Beginner Homeschool Class:

  • Ages: 13-18

  • Duration: 9am-3pm Saturdays with a 30 minute lunch break 

  • Food: Bring your own lunch

  • Enrollment: 2-4 spots

  • Cost: $115

  • Enrollment: 2-4 spots per class

  • Cost: $65

  • Requirement: IN ORDER TO ENROLL IN THIS CLASS STUDENTS MUST HAVE ALREADY TAKEN INTRO. TO BLACKSMITHING-TEENS


    This class builds off of the Intro to Blacksmithing-Teens. In this class students will learn how to rivet, which is where blacksmiths join together two separate parts of metal in such a way that they stay fixed and study. This technique was used for centuries before common day welders. In addition to riveting, students will learn how to punch, which is where a hole is created in the center to the metal by pushing the metal out of the way. Along with these new techniques students will incorporate and further improve upon the skills learned in their previous class.

NEW Knife Class-Hunting Knife:

  • Ages: 16+ (if younger and interested please contact us directly)

  • Duration: October 10-11 from 1am-6pm each day

  • Enrollment: 2 students per class or 4 students from the same family

  • Cost: $350 (materials included)

  • Requirement: STUDENTS MUST HAVE ALREADY TAKEN INTRO. TO BLACKSMITHING-TEENS- 


Students will begin with a special piece of flat bar metal meant for knifes and learn how to design a knife, forge, shape, and sharpen it with a high powered sander. After the blade is constructed students will take some specially selected wood and construct it into a handle for their custom made knife. Class time on Sunday may run over by about an hour in order to ensure students have a completed knife to take home.
